Ha The Unclear (NZ)
Ha The Unclear is a four-piece band based in Auckland, New Zealand. Led by enigmatic vocalist/guitarist/songwriter Michael Cathro, he is backed by Ben Sargeant on drums, Theo Francis on guitar and Paul Cathro on bass.
They provide a cathartic blend of jangly indie-folk and off-kilter, hook-driven pop, Cathro’s witty and clever songwriting plunges into absurdist narratives; including a love song from the point of view of a coffee table (“Secret Lives of Furniture"); a break up through intercom (“Growing Mould”), all delivered with a poignant Kiwi twang. Their debut record, Bacterium, Look At Your Motor Go, released in September 2014 caught the attention of international blogs, including Entertainment Weekly and BBC Introducing, while more recently they were hand picked by Courtney Barnett as support on her New Zealand tour.
Their quirky sound and slap-you-in-the-face lyricism has been rapidly sinking hooks into audiences across New Zealand and today, Ha The Unclear announces that they’ll make their debut journey, across the pond, to Australia for a string of shows in Melbourne, Ballarat and Adelaide, this February.
