Melbourne’s premium bedroom producer, Candy returns with “Sorry, Sydney” an apology to all the trash he spoke about the city after living there; it’s a bright track, seeping with remorse.
A practiced thought becomes a belief, and before we know it, a belief is dictating our choices. For Candy, who moved to Sydney in the midst of year 11 from a small country town in Northern New South Wales, he found himself stumbling around the big city with an inability to connect, he “always had this imposter syndrome” and sooner or later the imposter syndrome sent him packing to Melbourne.
As Candy explains, “I love that place, but I talked a lot of garbage about it, purely because I didn’t feel I was welcome,” however time has made him realise, “I shouldn’t take for granted the wonderful memories and relationships that came to fruition from living in that sunny city. It’s hard to deny how beautiful Sydney is with those stacked dishes and harbour bridge.”
“Sorry, Sydney“ is taken from Candy’s forthcoming album, Everything In Motion, out November 15.
Everything In Motion finds Candy in a seemingly more positive headspace but as usual, ruminating on life with honest lyrics that cut to the bone and whimsy that flecks through his sunny instrumentation.
